Subject: Proposal for Implementation of SVIP Online Learning Program (SOLP)

Dear Sir/ Madam,

At SVIP, our goal is to be a partner to schools in welcoming the Internet age in the education sector. Our aim is to help schools, teachers, students as well as parents in increasing the quality of education and promoting all-round development of students by complementing the traditional classroom teaching method with online education.

The online mode makes the process of learning more goal-oriented, participatory, flexible in time and space, unaffected by distances and tailored to individual learning styles, and increase collaboration between teachers and students. Online education enables learning to become fun and friendly, without fear of inadequacies or failure. At SVIP, we promote online learning more than multi-media education since the latter can be more complex to learn technologically, much more expensive and unsuitable to fit students’ budget, and require a minimum level of computer literacy.

I thank you, on behalf of the entire SVIP team, for showing your interest in the SVIP Online Learning Program (SOLP) and giving us an opportunity to submit a proposal for implementing the same in your school. We strongly encourage you to e-mail or call us, should you have any queries regarding this program. SVIP hopes that your school will respond favourably to our effort of providing Internet-enabled all-round education to your students.

Sincerely,
Sharan Walia

SUMMARY
SVIP School of Intellectuals Inc., having a rich experience in the education sector, is increasingly realizing the benefits that the online method of learning can provide to the student community. With the aim of ushering in the Internet revolution in the education sector in India, SVIP Online Learning Pvt. Ltd, a group company of the SVIP School of IntellectualsInc., USA has launched SVIP Online Learning Program (SOLP) as the very first step towards achieving this goal. SOLP is meant to complement the conventional method of classroom teaching in schools and promotes all-round development of students through its unique features.

SVIP proposes the implementation of SOLP in schools following all boards (CBSE, ICSE as well as other state boards), starting initially with classes VI to XII. The program will comprise of an internet-enabled learning module consisting of an extensive question/ answer databank, online books, a student information management system or the SVIP Online Software for Schools (SOSS), as well as the SVIP Online Quiz Center (SOQC). In addition, the program will includeacommunication module enabling connectivity amongst students, educationists and parents. Prizes and scholarships will also be distributed to winning students. Schools have the flexibility of implementing the program either for their entire student population or for a few interested students. The program is entirely free for schools, with only students who want to register required to pay a minimal annual fee.

Subject to registrations from all students in a school or receipt of sponsorships, initiatives will also be taken to develop students as responsible citizens by making them more aware about the social and environmental issues (such as global warming) surrounding them. The latter will be part of the “Project Prosperous India (PPI)” comprising of online discussions and lectures, as well as student participation in grass-root level projects that are fun yet have social/ environment implications.

 Introduction

SVIP Online Learning Pvt. Ltd. is based in India, and is a group company of SVIP School of Intellectuals Inc., USA. SVIP is essentially a team of educators, scholars, IT professionals and analysts from across the globe. The management and staff at SVIP share a common goal aimed at enhancing the knowledge of the student community with their user-friendly internet-enabled program, SVIP Online Learning Program(SOLP), SVIP Online Software for Schools (SOSS), and the SVIP Online Quiz Center (SOQC), all available at www.sviponline.com,.

SOLP is the world’s first unique online education system that targets a wide and complete group of users comprising all major stakeholders in the education system – Students, School Staff, School Teachers, Principal, and Parents.

SVIP is trying to include corporations in education system to help needy schools and students. Where SVIP is trying to give opportunity to corporations to get in touch with schools and students at the same time SVIP is seeking corporations help to sponsor various scholarships and PPI activities to increase the interest of students in online learning and to provide necessary facilities to needy schools and students to make online learning available to the students.

SVIP’s vision, Educating Students Online (ESOL), is to spread online learning among students in the entire world. Since online learning is made possible through the use of a computer, and better still a laptop in case learning has to be a seamless and 24x7 process, SVIP has envisioned the provision of a complete package including hardware, software, internet connection and learning content to students at a very nominal price.

The package, called the SVIP Package, will include a laptop and unlimited internet connection, made available at the time of registration for SOLP. Students will be free to either register only for SOLP or take up the entire package (including the laptop) at the time of registration. SVIP is targeting to provide the SVIP Package at Rs. 18,000 (one-time payment) or Rs. 1,500 per month for a year. After the first year, the student will be required to pay only Rs. 600 per month for unlimited Internet access including the SVIP annual registration fees. Students may apply to banks for education loans for payment of the SVIP Package.

In order to provide the package at this economical price, SVIP will need at least 5 lac orders of the laptop. SVIP, thus, requests schools to help its students in getting the benefit of a low-priced laptop by placing bulk orders for the SVIP Package. Interested students can also place the order for the SVIP Package on their own. In case interested, schools/ students should provide the following information to ESOL@sviponline.com: School Name, Student Name, School Address/ Student Address, School Phone Number/ Student Phone Number, Number of Expected SVIP Packages. As soon as SVIP gets a minimum of 5 lac orders for SVIP Packages, it will get back to the school/ student for confirmation of the order.

ESOL is an initiative undertaken by SVIP to help the average school student in getting a comprehensive and complete online package at a rate that they can afford. In order to further ease the payment in low monthly installments, SVIP will endeavour to get these package financed by a monetary institution. However, this will depend on the number of orders SVIP gets for such Packages from students and schools. Thus, any favourable response towards this effort will be highly appreciated.
Through implementation of SOLP in schools, SVIP strives to achieve the following objectives:

i.         Introduce online learning as an effective method of learning to students as well as teachers at affordable prices, with SVIP charging only Re. 1/- per day from interested students. The program is free for all other users including schools
ii.         Enable maximum possible participation by giving schools the flexibility of registering either the entire student population or only a few interested students
iii.         Create transparency in the education system and processes
iv.         Provide a platform to students where they can compete on intra school, inter school, national as well as international level. Thus, students can complete within a section, class, school, all schools of a school society/ group as well as with other schools
v.         Through scholarships and prizes, encourage and help students who are brilliant in education. The scholarships meet three objectives – Help economically weak but brilliant students; Motivate brilliant students irrespective of their financial back ground; Help economical weak students to get familiar with online learning by giving them free SVIP registrations and getting them sponsorships for internet café usage
vi.         Get recommendations on sviponline.com for students who need scholarship/ sponsorship to achieve their educational goals
vii.         Help financially weak students by either providing scholarships through the collected registration fees or getting them sponsorship from institutions/ corporate/ individuals
viii.         Generate awareness amongst students about social and environmental issues (such as global warming, cleanliness, friendliness etc.) and encouraging them to participate in activities related to “Project Prosperous India (PPI)”
ix.         Success of ESOL: Provide an option to parents and schools enabling them to buy a complete SVIP Package (Hardware, Software and Internet) for students at an affordable price)

The SOLP program is comprised of several different, but related features. These are as follows:
SOLP is an internet-enabled program, accessible anytime and from anywhere, with a 24*7 support, and available through a login on SVIP’s website. Its basis is the SVIP Online Knowledge Databank (SOKD), which is a searchable online question databank created and managed by educationists who are experts in their own subjects. The databank has been created scientifically by SVIP teachers who are continuously writing text and image type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Short Answer Type Questions (SAT), Descriptive Type Questions (DTQ), Essay Type Questions (ETQ) and Numerical Type Questions (NTQ). Though currently the questions are as per the CBSE and ICSE syllabus, SVIP plans to expand the databank by including all other regional/ state boards as well. The databank adheres to the latest standards of highest-quality education and has been scientifically created to nurture young minds of students. Currently, SOKD includes more than 50,000 questions on 22 subjects for classes VI to XII (all streams), with plans of expansion to include lower classes as well as professional courses in coming years. These questions are available by board, class, subjects, books, chapters, topics, sub-topic of interest as well as degree of difficulty. SVIP will continue to add to the knowledge databank in order to achieve its target of 100,000 questions by end of 2008. Every year SVIP is targeting to add 50,000 questions to the SOKD.
A search feature has been provided to allow students as well as other users to search for relevant questions on the topic they are studying. Students/ other users can hone their knowledge on the latest topics or sub-topics taught in the classroom by searching for questions in the SVIP online knowledge databank i.e., SOKD. All search results can be categorized using optional parameters like Question Type (Multiple Choice Questions, Descriptive Type Questions, Essay Type Questions, Numericals, Text and Images), School Board, Class, Subject, Title of Book, Chapter or Lesson, Topic and Sub-topic, and Degree of Complexity. The search engine also allows users to conduct a text search, wherein they can search for questions as well as answers by entering text of their choice. Using the ‘Tree” view format, users can see all chapters, topics and sub-topics on a single screen, thereby enabling selection of questions as per their own choice. Upon registration, this all can easily be accessed on www.sviponline.com in Student Panel > Learning Mode > Read Mode / Quiz Mode and using the button “View all Chapter, Topic & Sub-Topic”.
SOLP offers multiple learning modes to students, thus giving them the flexibility to learn as per their own convenience. The “Read Mode” allows students to read questions and answers of their choice by searching for questions online. On the other hand, the “Quiz Mode” allows studentsto participate in quizzes (and create quizzes) based on the knowledge databank. This mode allows assessment of the student’s knowledge level. Student can assess various quizzes on different subjects, chapters, topics, sub-topics of their choice either themselves or by participating in quizzes created/ assigned/ scheduled by SVIP, corporations, school teachers and principals. Instant results with correct answers are provided for all quizzes.

XI & XII class students can select/ edit the stream of their preference in their profile to see relevant subjects as per their selected stream.
The SVIP Online Quiz Center (SOQC) allows students to participate in a number of online quizzes at frequent intervals. These include:

               i.      19 News Quizzes - All registered students will be eligible to take part in 19 SVIP online News Quizzes with a chance to win a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 (scoring highest aggregated score in last 10 News Quizzes). The cash prize will be split into students ranking first, second, third, each getting Rs. 25,000, Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 10,000 respectively. The cash prize will be distributed irrespective of the number of registrations SVIP gets.

ii.      7 Class Quizzes – Of the total registration fees collected from students, SVIP will give back 30% to students in the form of scholarships. These will be distributed to students ranking 1st, 2nd and 3rd in final class quiz, held for classes VI to XII. All registered students will be eligible to take part in the 7 online Class Quizzes with chances to win scholarships and prizes. This means that for each class (VI to XII), there will be 6 qualifying quizzes, with the toppers from these 6 quizzes competing in the 7th quiz to win scholarships. Students will qualify for the final quiz depending on their percentage score in the first six class quizzes, with a minimum of 90% score required from any of the 6 qualifying quizzes. SVIP has full authority to change this percentage depending on number of student registrations or sponsorships. Only classes giving a minimum of 10 registrations will be considered for scholarships. The scholarship amount, as mentioned, will be based on the number of registrations received from each class and will be at the discretion of SVIP. SVIP may give a cash prize of Rs. 1 lac to the winner from each class, only if the minimum number of global registrations is 10,000 or sponsorship is received

iii.      The winners of each of the above 26 quizzes will be awarded with some sort of sponsored prize or cash worth Rs. 365/-, provided there are a minimum of 10 participants in each quiz

iv.      All registered students will be able to take online quizzes created, assigned and scheduled by school/ class/ section teachers and principal. Students will be able to see the results immediately. An additional benefit is that teachers are allowed to create their own quizzes in SOQC for their students
Teachers and principals can create their personal databank of questions to be referred by them in creating quizzes and making examination papers, in addition to using the SOKD to create quizzes. Students, if allowed by teachers/ principals, can view the personal data bank. Teachers and Principal can assign these quizzes to:

               i.      All school students
ii.      Students of a particular Class/ Section
            iii.      A particular student
            iv.      Selected students
Quiz can be scheduled for a particular date and time. Scheduled quiz appears in the student’s panel immediately but can not be started before the scheduled date and time. Results are visible immediately. It should be noted that it is only the Principal who has the provision of printing quizzes to conduct them offline. The latter is a new feature and will be made available soon.
SOLP offers 24x7online/ offline help to all registered students, teachers, staff, principals and parents. Users can make online submissions of questions related to usage of the databank, usage of various features of SOLP, available questions and any other queries they may have. These questions are routed to the SVIP administration personnel who will respond to the user in the shortest possible time.
Registered students can ask questions online to the SVIP Online Help Teacher’s panel. The latter comprises of SVIP teachers specialists in their respective subjects. All submitted questions are replied within 12 hours of submission time.
4.8.      Online Education Record for Lifetime
SOLP allows all registered students to maintain their personal educational record online for lifetime. This is a record containing complete information about a student’s education including his/ her performance in school/ college /professional course/ university that can be accessed any time and anywhere. To access this record, the student will have to be an active member of SVIP.
Online books for classes VI to XII are available on the SOLP portal. Students can read these books online and search them by class, subject or chapter. Teachers as well as school staff can upload books. In case registrations are received from the entire school, SVIP will provide assistance in uploading books.
By default, every user (student, teacher, staff, principal, and parents) will be assigned a personal email address on registration with SOLP. The email address, with the sviponline.com domain, can be used for all types of internal communication with school teachers, principal, school staff, parents and SVIP administration. The SVIP communication module will help teachers and principals reply to students’ and parents’ questions quickly, thus helping in building trust.
The SOSS is a unique web application that will help in management of student information online. The SOSS will be made available to all schools that register for SOLP, irrespective of the number of student registrations made in that school. Using SOSS, schools will be able to create and maintain students’ data online that will be visible to all users (students, teachers, principal, staff and parents). The following sub-modules are available for all users on SOSS:
               i.      Create, maintain, and update profiles of students, teachers and staff online
ii.      Attendance of students, teachers and staff by class/ section as well as by month/ date: Attendance marked by school teachers for class/ section students online, will be visible to students, parents and principal as well
iii.      View and keep track of schedule and activities created and maintained by school staff and class/ section teachers. Teachers have rights to create and maintain class/ section activities of school, class and section and these are viewable by parents, students and principals
iv.      Marks and results of all interim and final examinations: Users (including parents) will be able to view students’ report cards online entered and maintained by school staff and/ or class/ section/ subject teachers for different examinations types and categories
             v.      View examination date-sheet by class, section, examination type and category entered and maintained by school staff: The feature is useful for parents who can keep a track of examination dates
vi.      View syllabus as well as syllabus schedule by class/ section/ subject teachers: With the help of this module students will also be able to see the syllabus schedule and progress of syllabus, start and end dates by class/ section/ subject; The functionality is especially useful for principal who can check the syllabus schedule and status of each and every class/ section about the status of syllabus covered in a particular class/section. Thus principal can monitor if class/section is running as per schedule or not.
vii.      View and keep a track of homework assigned by class/ section/ subject teachers: Parents can view the same too.
viii.      View timetable online: The time-table will have to be entered and maintained by the school staff
ix.      View and read books online:. Schools are given the option of uploading books of their choice
This is a new feature expected to be launched soon by SVIP. The feature allows anyone to register as a “visitor” without having to pay the annual registration fees. Visitors as well as SVIPers (i.e. students who pay the registration fees and hence have access to the learning content as well as SOQC) will be allowed to submit any question online at sviponline.com. The question may be answered by either visitors or SVIPers, with each response being rated by the person who has asked the question. The feature is aimed at creating an environment where students are encouraged to ask more and more questions and thus increase interaction between different categories of users. The person submitting the highest number of high rating answers will be given a cash prize by either SVIP or a sponsor. Thus, any visitor may post or reply to questions, with the only process being registering on the site without having to pay. All posted questions will first be scrutinised by SVIP teacher.
SVIP software has inbuilt data security which enables students/ teachers/ principal/ parents view data of their own school only. Thus no one can see data of other schools.

SVIP is well aware of the fact that a country cannot claim itself to be a developed one without maintaining proper cleanliness. 10% of total revenue of SVIP will be used for this project and students will be supported by different programs to keep their room, school, house, street, city and the country clean.

Sponsorship Opportunity

Lakhs of students who are brilliant in study but weak on financial front thus fail to achieve their career goals because of lack of finances and guidance. SVIP with the help of its sponsors is taking an initiative to help such students.

Lets join hands together and do something for our students in India. Another front where our country needs help is cleanliness which is the first requirement of making India a developed country. It would be our pleasure if we could contribute a little bit in the ongoing effort of making India a developed country.
